# Plans and limits

> What each plan includes, how subscribers are counted, and what happens when you go over.

Plans are priced by how many subscribers you have. Every plan has every feature; you only pay for more people. Plans are per workspace.

## Plans

| Plan | Subscribers | Monthly | Yearly |
| - | - | - | - |
| Free | 1,000 | \$0 | \$0 |
| Starter | 5,000 | \$19 | \$190 |
| Growth | 10,000 | \$39 | \$390 |
| Scale | 25,000 | \$79 | \$790 |
| Pro | 50,000 | \$159 | \$1,590 |
| Business | 100,000 | \$279 | \$2,790 |

Paying yearly gets you two months free. Paid plans have unlimited sends. The free plan includes 10,000 sends a month. Emails on the free plan end with a small "Powered by subscriber.dev" line. Paid plans remove it.

For more than 100,000 subscribers, email [sales@subscriber.dev](mailto:sales@subscriber.dev).

## How subscribers are counted

Only your **Production** environment counts. Staging and any other environments are free, so test as much as you like.

Your count is whichever is higher:

* subscribers who are opted in to email, or
* people you've emailed this billing period.

Opted-out and deleted subscribers don't count, unless you emailed them earlier in the period.

## Going over your plan

**On the free plan**, emails stop when you reach a limit, and the run records why:

* Past 1,000 subscribers, your newest subscribers aren't emailed. Everyone else still is.
* Past 10,000 sends in a month, nothing more sends until the next month.

**On a paid plan**, nothing stops straight away. You can grow up to the next plan's limit, and after 3 days over, you're moved up to the next plan automatically and charged the difference. If you drop back under within 3 days, nothing changes. Past the next plan's limit, your newest subscribers aren't emailed until you upgrade.

**Broadcasts** check first. If a broadcast would take you over your plan, it asks you to confirm with `--allow-over-plan` (or `allowOverPlan: true` in the API). A broadcast that would go past the next plan's limit is refused until you upgrade.

At renewal, you move to the paid plan that fits your opted-in subscribers, so if your list shrinks, so does your bill. You stay on at least Starter until you cancel.

## Check your usage and upgrade

Or ask [your agent](https://docs.subscriber.dev/mcp.md): "How close am I to my plan's limit?"

> [tab] CLI
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> subscriber billing
> subscriber billing upgrade growth --annual
> subscriber billing portal
> ```
>
> `billing` shows your plan, subscriber count, sends this month and, if you're over, when you'll move up. `upgrade` opens Stripe Checkout. `portal` opens Stripe to change your card, see invoices or cancel.

> [tab] API
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> curl https://api.subscriber.dev/workspaces/$WORKSPACE/billing -H "x-api-key: $KEY"
> ```
>
> `POST .../billing/checkout` and `POST .../billing/portal` return a link to open.

Self-hosting has no plans or limits. See [Self-hosting](https://docs.subscriber.dev/self-hosting.md).
